Starter sets
Buy a disc golf starter set and get playing: At Discgolf4you, you’ll find affordable beginner sets, lightweight discs and high-quality premium sets. Whether you want to try the sport or play regularly, discover the right discs for your first rounds.
Most sets include a putter, midrange and driver. The right weight and manageable flight characteristics make a difference. Our buying guide helps you choose a combination that suits you.
Which starter set is right for you?
Which set suits my needs?
Trying disc golf: An affordable base-plastic set is a sensible starting point. It lets you discover the sport without spending much upfront.
Playing regularly: We recommend a premium starter set with a durable midrange and a suitable fairway driver. A grippy base-plastic putter completes this combination.
Lower throwing speeds: Lightweight, easy-to-control discs can make learning easier for children and adults alike.
Which discs do I need?
Putter: For putting into the basket, short approaches and controlled throws.
Midrange: A versatile disc for medium distances and learning a smooth throwing technique.
Fairway driver: For longer throws as you develop more throwing speed.
Our tip: You don’t need to use all three discs immediately. A putter and midrange give you plenty of opportunities to learn. You can even try the sport with just one suitable disc.
Base plastic or premium plastic?
Base plastic is affordable and often grippy. Impacts and wear usually change its flight characteristics more quickly. It’s a good choice for trying disc golf and playing occasional rounds.
Premium plastic is generally more durable. It’s particularly worthwhile for midranges and fairway drivers that you throw regularly.
For putters, feel matters: Many experienced players prefer base plastic for putting. A high-quality set doesn’t need to consist entirely of premium plastics.
For example, the Discmania Premium Starter Set combines a D-Line P1 putter, a Neo Origin midrange and an S-Line FD fairway driver.
Are faster drivers better?
A higher speed rating doesn’t automatically mean more distance. Fast drivers require sufficient throwing speed to achieve their intended flight.
Beginners often get better results with slower, easy-to-control discs. For drivers, lower weights and understable flight characteristics can make learning easier.
A more negative turn rating can indicate a disc that turns more readily during the faster part of its flight. Always consider it alongside weight, speed and fade.
Which sets are suitable for children?
Look for a manageable weight and easy-to-control flight characteristics. Lightweight discs can be easier to accelerate with less power.
For example, the Latitude 64° Zero Gravity Starter Set includes lightweight discs weighing approximately 120–130 grams.
Our tip: Consider both weight and flight characteristics. A lightweight high-speed driver isn’t automatically the best disc for those first throws.
Does a starter set make a good gift?
Yes! A well-matched disc golf starter set makes a great gift for someone discovering the sport. It takes the guesswork out of choosing individual discs.
For curious beginners: an affordable beginner set.
For regular play: a premium starter set.
For children: lightweight, easy-to-control discs.
